Gender Based Violence

HACEY / Advocacy / Gender Based Violence

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) includes a range of violent acts mainly committed by males against females and a cause and consequence of gender inequality. Gender-based violence knows no social or economic boundaries and affects women and girls of all socio-economic backgrounds.

The incidences of gender-based violence are on a rise in Nigeria and other African countries, particularly in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria.

One in every four Nigerian females experience sexual violence as a child; yet conversations on sexuality remain taboo in Nigeria, especially among young people between the ages of 10 and 18.

GBV is arguably the most widespread of all human rights violations and systemic public health issues; however, early intervention is the most effective form of prevention.

Our anti-GBV programs aim at preventing and eradicating gender-based violence.
