Global Goals, Local Action: Advancing Homegrown Solutions for Girls and Women through Regional Advocacy Caucuses

We are pleased to announce the release of Global Goals, Local Action: Advancing homegrown solutions for girls and women through regional advocacy caucuses. This report highlights the exciting advocacy outcomes from eight regional advocacy caucuses held at the 2016 Women Deliver Conference in May in Copenhagen, Denmark. PATH and Women Deliver co-sponsored the caucuses, and each caucus convening was designed and led by a local NGO from the region.

Building on convenings held at previous Women Deliver conferences, the aim of the caucuses was to foster collective advocacy action at the national and regional level to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescents’ Health, and other global commitments, so that they make a meaningful positive impact on the lives of girls and women. Each caucus leveraged the resources and expertise of a multi-sectoral partnership of the local implementers, policymakers, and civil society organizations who participated in each convening. Outcomes from the meetings include: a new pact for reproductive health and rights in Latin America & the Caribbean, parliamentary commitments to end child marriage in Southern and Western Asia, and plans for a Center of Excellence for citizen-led accountability in Eastern Africa – among many others.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the SDGs this September, developing regionally and nationally localized solutions to make these global goals a reality will be increasingly important to their success. The caucuses were a jumping-off point in this effort, and the momentum will continue through the shared action plans adopted by the caucus participants.

Please join us as we share this report with advocates for the health, rights, and wellbeing of all girls and women around the world.
